To help protect the clarity and beauty of the night sky of Wickenburg and it’s surrounding areas for the benefit of present and future generations.
We invite you to be a part of an organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the beauty of our night skies on behalf of ourselves and future generations.
According to the 2016 groundbreaking “World Atlas of Artificial Night Sky Brightness”, 99% of the United States population cannot experience a natural night sky because of light pollution.
Most of us are familiar with air, water and land pollution, but did you know light can be a pollutant too? Light pollution is the excessive or inappropriate use of outdoor artificial light.
When we over-light the night sky, we negatively impact migratory birds, pollinators, and mammals. Light pollution also disturbs the natural sleep cycles of both animals and humans.
Similar to other development aspects, such as landscaping, cohesive streetscape appearance, and drivability, preserved night sky vistas contribute to an area's economic benefit.
Wickenburg is a Western Sky town. It is one of the few places left in the United States where you can still see the Milky Way, dozens of constellations, and thousands of stars.
Experiencing the night sky provides perspective and inspiration and it’s just plain beautiful! Tonight - Look up!
Lights shine downwards.
Only areas needing light are illuminated. Lights are turned off when not needed. Lights are not brighter than necessary.
